Pearl knotting is a beautiful technique and timeless aesthetic addition to any piece of handmade jewelry. This class will teach you the design and construction of a silk-knotted necklace using semi-precious stones and freshwater pearls. The knots add such depth and elegance that silk knotting has transitioned from a traditional technique to a commonly used modern technique in beaded jewelry designs. The silk adds a fluidity and textural effect that you can’t get from any other type of stringing.

Instructor: Amy Margaret Kapphan has a bachelor of fine arts degree in metal design from the University of Washington in Seattle. She taught jewelry making at Beads of Bainbridge in Winslow and various other bead stores. Her jewelry is sold online at amymargaret.com.
