This clinic is for those who've taken a casting course and want to continue developing their skills with centrifugal or vacuum casting. You'll get hands-on time to work through the full process — spruing, investing, and casting — with an experienced instructor available for feedback and support.

If you want to build confidence, refine your technique, or troubleshoot common casting issues, this is a great way to stay in practice while deepening your understanding of the process. On the first day, you'll sprue and invest your pieces and, on the second day, you'll cast.

Details

• You need to provide your own metal (see "Materials" below). 

• Everyone helps to clean up both days.

Prerequisites

• You must have completed a casting class at BARN or have casting techniques checked off on your Jewelry Studio Skills Card.

• If you don’t have a Skills Card but have previous experience, you can fill out a form requesting a Skills Assessment.

Materials

• A $12 materials fee, included in the cost of the clinic, covers one flask equal to 500 grams of investment. 

• You provide your own metal. Bronze or sterling are the most-often-cast materials. If you're using scrap, clean and remove all solder beforehand. You can cast in gold if you choose.

• If you choose to cast more than one flask, bring a credit card to pay for the extra investment.

• You should bring a towel for drying your hands and metal and a cotton apron.

• You can bring safety glasses and magnifying glasses, or wear those available in the studio.

Class Policies

• Ages 14 and up are welcome.

• Wear closed-toe shoes and natural-fiber clothing.

• Do not wear loose or synthetic-fiber clothing, scarves, or ties.

• Do not wear dangling jewelry, such as necklaces and bracelets.

• Tie back beards. Tie back long hair in a bun.
