About

BARN Member:  $135 (3 sessions)
Non-member:  $160 (3 sessions)

Materials fee: $20

Basic principles and techniques for building a box clasp will be explored in this three-session class. Application of techniques such as "score and fold" and "slot-in-slot" construction will be demonstrated. Participants will be making a working box clasp and explore decorative options for using box clasps in jewelry items. This is an Intermediate level class and participants should be well versed and independent in sawing and soldering in order to succeed in this workshop.

All necessary tools will be provided. Students are welcome to bring their own or buy before class a brass slide gauge, a divider and a key.

Instructor: After serving as a fine jewelry designer and marketing consultant for Nordstrom, Neiman Marcus and Tiffany & Co., Nanz Aalund taught jewelry metals classes at the University of Washington and at the Art Institute in Seattle. She authored the 40 biographies in the book Masters: Gold (published by Lark Books in 2009) and served as technical author and associate editor for Art Jewelry Magazine. Currently, Nanz is writing an Apprenticeship Guide for Manufacturing Jewelers & Suppliers of America, due for publication in spring of 2017.
