Book Arts Round-table: Focus on Career/Business Development, Moderated by Laura Russell

Join us for a lively round-table discussion focused on book art career and/or business development. Our conversation will apply to anyone working in the book art field including book artists, teachers, calligraphers, book binders, conservationists, printers, papermakers and more. Laura Russell, owner of 23 Sandy Gallery and a working artist, will guide a lively discussion on the topics such as:

·        Can you make a living in the book arts?
·        Hobby or business?
·        Defining success
·        Do or teach?
·        Building a name for yourself and your business
·        Goals, strategies, productivity
·        The holy exhibition history
·        Your artist biography
·        Culling a collections list
·        Building exposure
·        Handling rejection
·        Relationships and connections
·        Masterminds
·        Stealing studio time

Round-table discussions are generally more informal than regular lectures. Laura hopes to create a dynamic environment in which we all feel comfortable asking questions or sharing ideas that may be more difficult to express during a lecture. This event will be a good opportunity to ask questions, get feedback on certain topics, share your experience, as well as discover new perspectives on fresh topics. Laura will function as moderator, answer questions, keep us focused on topic and make sure everyone gets a chance to be heard.

This is the fourth workshop in our ongoing Professional Development for the Book Arts series.
