Leatherworking can be a satisfying and rewarding skill, especially when applied to something functional. This class will focus on creating a sheath for knives, but all the skills you'll learn can be applied to many more uses. So, if sheath making isn’t your thing, leatherworking still may be! If you've a knife with a blade of 6 inches or less that's in need of a sheath, bring it in. Wooden models for sheath making (commonly known as a “last”) will also be available.

This course covers eight hours over three evenings in order to provide the time needed for proper leather work. We’ll cover the anatomy of leather, it's different types, and the means of working leather such as wet forming, gluing, stitching, tooling, burnishing, dying, and buffing. The course is packed with solid information on skilled leather working. 

The tools and space needed to work leather are quite minimal. The tools you'll be using in the class will be yours when you finish this class,

Details

A materials fee of $56 is included in the cost of the class. This includes a good 50-piece leather working kit needed for your ongoing projects, 6 binder clips to hold your leather while forming, and a 12"x12" 7-8 oz piece of leather you'll need for your sheath.

Class Policies

• Wear closed-toe shoes or boots. Sandals are not permitted.
• Ages 14 and up are welcome.
