This class is why you never throw away any of your scrap glass!

A pot melt is the process of melting colorful shards of glass, through a ceramic pot with holes into a metal ring creating a colorful glass disk.

Compatible scraps of glass are heated in a clay pot inside the kiln. The glass, when heated, flows from openings in the bottom of a clay pot. This flowing thick syrupy glass substance will result in a spirals, or ringlets flowing in circular patterns. Each melt will be unique and next to impossible to replicate. 

Prerequisite of an A-Z of Fused Glass class is mandatory before signing up for this class. 

In Session 1 you will prepare & load your project for firing.  

In Session 2 you will do the cold work necessary to prep your glass disc for fire polishing.

These fire polished discs make lovely cheese or serving trays or can be slumped at a later date into a mold of your liking. Students can cut these apart and use them as part sheets in future work.  Pot melts are fun and exciting, you never can predict what your pot melt will look like.  As you delve into this process you will learn what colors work best with each other and how the clay pot openings create your design.

There will be a material fee of $15 applied to the registration fee.

PLEASE BRING TO CLASS:

Your 96 COE scrap glass to class, you will need about 2-3 #'s of glass, this should include clear as well as colors, we will have a scale on site to measure the weights.
