Welding, Bending, Cutting and Scrollwork

Make a plant hanger, a wall sconce, a tomato cage, or a piece of art. Make parts for a larger project. Use your imagination.

This is an integrated class using the combined tools of the welding and sheet metal studios to form curved projects in steel.  This class uses the scroll bender or roller bender to fabricate mild steel strips for use in gates, trellises, plant stands, hooks. Use the sheet metal roller to curve sheet steel (<16 gauge).  Cut designs with the plasma cutter.  Weld the pieces together.

This 3 hour class will prepare you for use in our open studios and/or encourage you to seek more improved skills.

Previous welding experience is NOT a prerequisite for scroll work or for basic tack welds.


Details:
Class size is 3 people facilitating one-on-one learning and direct mentoring. 

• There is a materials fee of $18 for steel, gas, and filler wire included in the price of the class.
• BARN will provide Personal Protection Equipment (PPE)
• Participants must wear long sleeve shirts and pants in natural fiber clothing and closed toe shoes.  Stretch fabrics are prohibited.

Instructor: Bob Mathisrud has 20+ years’ experience as a stationary operating engineer for national recognized bakeries.
