This in-depth introductory class offers the opportunity to learn basic silkscreening techniques from start to finish. 

Using your own designs, you will create two custom screens using both the “screen-filler” hand-painted technique, and the photo emulsion technique. 

Starting from the very beginning, you will learn to coat screens, apply designs in both methods, develop screens, and print on fabric and paper!

We will go over mixing inks, printing with two colors, registration (lining up two designs), heat-setting prints on fibers, use of the wet-room for silkscreening and proper clean up.

Day 1 will involve an introduction to the processes, hand painting one screen and designing the photo emulsion design. 

On Day 2 we will process photo emulsion screens and print using both!

Skill Level: Beginner! This is an introductory level silk screen class. No prior experience needed.

Age Level: 8+.  Children between the ages of 8 - 14 will need to accompany and supervise the adults working with them on a silk screen project.

What to Bring: Bring a design to transfer onto the screen and an apron to protect your clothes. Ink comes off of skin easily but stains clothing.

A $55 material fee will added to the cost of the class when you register. This includes 2 screens/student, screen filler, drawing fluid, emulsion, inks, paper, cloth.

Instructor Bio: Emily Browne is an artist who has been silkscreening for over 10 years. She currently creates handmade textile items with silkscreen designs under the business name My First Birds.
