Shuttle tatting is a decorative and sturdy lace made with a series of knots and loops done independently in your hand manipulated by a shuttle. It's the earliest method of creating tatted lace, believed to have originated in the early 19th century. It is a popular and easy-to-learn method of adding lace to clothing and household items. Come join Janetmarie in learning to use the shuttle to create tatted lace.

Beginners welcome!

Instructor: Janetmarie Valiga, a BARN member and eager student, is a professional writer and artist.  She earned a Bachelor’s degree in Craft Arts and a Masters’ degree in Interdisciplinary Arts from Columbia College. She has taught needlelace in the college-level Fiber/Fabric Department of the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Janetmarie enjoyed being a member of the Chicago Area Lace Guild where she taught tatting and other lace methods. She also lectured at International Old Lacers, Inc. and at the City of Chicago Public Library System. Her lacemaking is listed in A Directory of Chicago Craftsmen and Artisans.
