About

Boxes make books look very finished and professional, protects them very well, and are just beautiful in general. But they don't have to be just for books!  Any small items, including jewelry can have specially made boxes to protect and present them, or give them as gifts.

We’ll learn about several traditional box styles, including clam shell cases, boxes with attached and separate lids, and make a final box that incorporates a personal item bought from home.  We’ll also cover different types of book board, various methods of covering the  box, and receive a box-making jig to take home.  You’ll walk away with resources for supplies and materials, a box jig, samples of several styles of boxes, and the knowledge to make a personal project that is satisfying and complete.

No experience is necessary, however a basic familiarity with book making tools is a benefit.

Please Note: there will be a $20 materials fee added the class cost when you register.

Instructor:
Mary Jeanne Linford has been a professional book artist for over 20 years, under the press name Bad Girl Press.  She also works with three other women under the press name Full Plate Press. Her books are in selected museums, libraries and collections nationwide, and can be seen in the book arts room at Bainbridge Island Museum of Art.
