About

This class, generously provided by Bainbridge Prepares, is part of BARN’s community resilience series.

Learn techniques to help save a life before someone bleeds out, empowering you to assist in an emergency:

  • How to use your hands to apply pressure to a wound.
  • How to pack a wound to control bleeding.
  • How to correctly apply a tourniquet.

Launched in the United States in October 2015 by the White House, Stop the Bleed® is a national awareness campaign and a call to action. The campaign is intended to cultivate grassroots efforts that encourage bystanders to become trained, equipped, and empowered to help in a bleeding emergency before professional help arrives.

No matter how rapid the arrival of professional emergency responders, bystanders will always be first on the scene. A person who is bleeding can die from blood loss within five minutes, so quickly stopping the bleeding is critical. Those nearest to someone with life-threatening injuries are best positioned to provide immediate care if they're equipped with the appropriate training and resources.
