This six week class is designed to bring the young novice machinist up to speed for using the basic tools of a machine shop. We will cover the following topics:

  • Proper layout of parts using Calipers, Micrometers squares, and hight gauge. Locating, center punching, and drilling and reaming of holes on flat and cylindrical material.

  • How to cut threads using taps and dies.

  • The construction and use of Jigs and fixtures. 

  • Proper safe use of the milling machine covering set up and locating surfaces.

  • Proper cutter selection.

  • Cutting slots and recesses.

  • Precision alignment and drilling of holes.

  • How to setup to do repeatable operations.

  • Proper safe use of the Machinist lathe covering set up and locating surfaces.

  • Proper cutter selection.

  • Turning an object down to a specific diameter.

  • Boring out the center to a specific diameter.

  • How to set up to do repeatable operations.
