About

Kimbap, often dubbed a “Korean sushi roll,” is a staple in Korean cuisine, celebrated for its versatility, vibrant presentation, and delightful combination of flavors and textures.

In this cooking class, participants will learn to prepare kimbap from scratch, exploring various fillings such as:

  • Seasoned vegetables
  • Imitation crab Fish cake
  • Egg omelet
  • Bulgogi (grilled marinated beef)
  • Danmuji (pickled radish)

The session will cover essential skills, including rice seasoning, ingredient preparation, rolling techniques, and achieving the perfect slice.

Beyond the culinary techniques, the class will search into the cultural significance of kimbap in Korean traditions, such as its role in picnics, celebrations, and everyday meals. Participants will also gain insights into the philosophy of obangsaek—the traditional Korean color concept representing five directions and elements—which is often reflected in the colorful ingredients of kimbap. We'll cover essential techniques, from seasoning the rice to rolling and slicing the perfect kimbap.

By the end of the session, attendees will have the confidence to recreate kimbap at home, equipped with knowledgeabout ingredient substitutions, variations, and presentation tips. This class promises not only a feast for the palate but also a rich cultural experience, fostering a deeper appreciation for Korean culinary arts.
