About

This gentle introduction to three-dimensional design (CAD) and 3D printing is for anyone curious about designing and 3D printing things.
You'll use Tinkercad, a free design software, to design a small object. Then you'll be walked through the steps of preparing it for 3D printing. Next we'll take your design to the printers, pick a color of filament, set up the printer, and print it. The printed thing will be yours to keep.

Note that 3D printing is kind of slow and you may need to pick up your thing later. Or feel free to stick around because there’s an Open Studio until 6 PM.

Details

  • Bring a laptop or use one of the studio’s Windows computers.
  • Before class, please sign up for a free account at Tinkercad.com. Click the “sign up” button and select “Create a personal account.”
  • No prerequisites other than being comfortable using a computer and mouse.
