About
Explore the art of relief printing using battleship linoleum as your block and create a multi-color design by "reducing" the printable area for each color. In a reduction print, you carve and print your linoleum block in one color, then carve more away from the same block and print it on the same piece of paper in another color. This can be repeated numerous times to create multi-color prints. This method is economical for printmakers since you only use one block, but it also stretches your creativity and skills to think about how to layer colors to achieve the result you want.
In this class, you'll learn:
- How to conceive of an image appropriate for reduction block printing.
- How to plan the order of colors you’ll print and which areas to carve first.
- Safe carving techniques.
- How to ink your block.
- How to use BARN's etching press.
- How to register or align your block to print multiple layers on the same piece of paper in the same place.
