About

What better way to warm the house and the body than with a pot of Thai Red Curry (Kaeng Phet Kai) served over fragrant jasmine rice?

Learn to make the red curry paste (Nam Phrik Kaeng Daeng) from scratch, using spices such as lemongrass, turmeric, and galangal. This versatile paste can be used in many other dishes such as peanut sauce, a quick vegetable stir-fry, or curry fried rice. The meal will be complemented with a refreshing Savory Prawn Salad (Phla Kung) with fresh coriander and mint. You'll leave with a good understanding of how to achieve familiar and delicious Thai flavors with confidence.

Join us as we explore the key ingredients for Thai curries, and how each one contributes to flavoring this popular dish. Learn to use a mortar and pestle and understand its importance to flavor and texture. Just a few secrets will unlock exciting possibilities for weeknight menus at home.

Theary Tran

Theary spent her childhood years in her native Cambodia, where cooking was integral to the culture. Cooking with local ingredients and trusting her senses, Theary learned to achieve flavor in dishes that looked as good as they tasted. These skills enabled her to feel at home regardless of the cuisine she's exploring. For the past 20 years, Theary has been bringing her love of art and cooking to children and adults, teaching fundamentals as building blocks for creativity. The result is a safe and encouraging environment for students to explore their imaginations. Her goal is for each student to have a positive experience that inspires self-confidence, and the opportunity to connect with their own creativity. Theary is currently a K-6 educator locally and in Sonoma County. In her spare time, she spends time in the water, kayaking, hiking, or biking.
