About

This course provides an overview of several key tools self-published authors can use to accelerate and improve their published products. IT IS NOT a course on how to get AI to write books for you! The intent is to expose you to the tools that can help in a variety of contexts, such as:

  • Brainstorming book and story ideas.
  • Creating brand assets.
  • Planning author activities, marketing, and book launch planning.
  • Evaluating competitive titles.

The primary concepts discussed include:

  • Legal and ethical constraints for using AI:
    • Disclosing the use of AI.
    • Your work and what AI does with it.
  • Indie author/publisher competencies:
    • Deciding where AI can help.
  • Prompt engineering using a SMART framework:
    • AI support for prompt engineering.

AI platform tools:

  • ChatGPT
  • Claude (Anthropic)
  • Gemini (Google)
  • Midjourney
  • OpenArt

Specialized author tools that rely on AI:

  • Publisher Rocket (aka KDP Rocket)
  • ProWritingAid

While you won't have hands-on training on using these tools, you'll understand specific challenges for some participants who complete the pre-work.
