About
The second in the "Artists Foment" series to promote collaborative artwork and social action, features Seattle neo-surrealist artist Blake Blanco. Blake's work has been exhibited in the United States and internationally, including a 2022 solo show at the Bainbridge Island Museum of Art.
The surrealism movement originated in the 1920s and 1930s, after the brutality of World War I, emphasizing the importance of the unconscious mind and dreams. A revival is under way, especially in painting and sculpture, depicting the imagery of dreams and the subconscious mind.
Artists Foment is a project by Bainbridge Island sculptor and painter Peter C. Sprung and is supported by a grant from Arts & Humanities Bainbridge. With regular meetings, presentations, dialogue, and collaborations among area artists, the project aims to encourage artists to make artwork collaboratively and develop spin-off projects that will amplify voices and promote community engagement and social action around concern for the environment, social justice, and diversity with the power of art.
