About

Combine printmaking and collage in this multi-media workshop! In the first part of the workshop, you'll create multicolor prints using Gelli Arts gel printing plates. In the second part, you'll cut up the prints you just made and collage them together in new ways to create finished pieces.

Gelli Arts plates are reusable plates made from a non-toxic, synthetic gelatin that let you create multicolor monoprints without a large press, making this an ideal form of printmaking to pursue at home. We'll start with our flexible gelatin plates, apply acrylic paints and inks, and explore a variety of tools — paintbrushes, brayers, stencils and more — to create a wide range of imagery. Since the prints will be made with acrylic paints, they'll dry quickly, allowing you to add many layers to produce multicolor images. The instructor will cover basic techniques for those who have never printed before, so beginners are welcome!

You'll then move to cutting your prints into shapes to create either abstract or recognizable images. The instructor will discuss principles of design, composition, color, and more to help you compose successful images. You'll use a variety of methods to glue your prints and any other materials you want to incorporate into your collage designs. The end result will be finished collage artwork that reflects the spontaneity and fun of Gelli Arts prints.

You'll make one or more prints, and can take home the Gelli Arts gel printing plate to continue playing with this technique at home or at BARN.
