About

Learn the art of capturing mouth-watering food imagery, from the basics of DSLR (Digital Single-Lens Reflex) cameras and iPhone photography, to styling and composition. In “Editing,” you’ll learn about the post-production process and participate in practical demonstrations on everything up to and including the final crop. And you’ll learn to “develop your aesthetic” using previous photos.

This is part of our “Introduction to Food Photography” series, which begins with an exploration of the significance of food photography in advertising, cookbooks, and culinary blogging. Through demonstrations with a DSLR (Digital Single-Lens Reflex) camera or an iPhone, you’ll be immersed in the fundamentals of photography with a focus on composition, lighting, styling, and editing.

Chef Sandra Mehta will prepare delectable dishes for you to photograph during each session. The series culminates with a final feast-and-capture session, blending the pleasures of dining with the art of photography, and an optional opportunity to showcase your work during our final class.

Cheryl Skinn

Cheryl is a creative producer and photographer who finds joy in helping brands, makers, and storytellers reach their creative goals. Her creative journey began with a seven-year stint as a digital colorist and flash animator for Highlights for Children magazine. After majoring in photography in college, she landed an internship shadowing a celebrity photographer, supporting Getty Images, and as a photojournalist for New York Fashion Week, leading to years working in the fashion world.
Shifting into production, she worked for Hudson’s Bay Company and Saks Fifth Avenue before becoming a digital photo technician, assistant art director, and supervisor of online operations for Nordstrom’s Los Angeles photography studio. After stumbling upon Kitsap County, she and her husband (and the cat) moved to Poulsbo in 2019. Since 2020, she has worked for Town & Country Markets Inc., producing recipe and lifestyle photography.
