About

This course is for those who want to grow as silk painters. You'll stretch your 15-inch by 60-inch scarf on a frame using the instructor's stretching technique. You'll apply a light coat of H Dupont dye before applying clear Resistad to lock in the color. You'll then apply more dye and colored or clear Resistad in layers, creating a design with depth of color.

You'll be surprised by the results because you'll be painting on the back side of the scarf. You'll wrap and steam-fix your silk using a home-made steamer and wash your silk in class. While your scarf is steam-fixing, you'll have time to start a smaller piece that you can finish at home.

Be adventurous and have fun while learning the basics of color and design!

Evette Allerdings
Surface Design, Fabric Painting

Evette, taught to sew by her mother when she was 8, participated in neighborhood fashion shows for many summers in grade school. She has a bachelor of science degree in fashion design and is a multiple award-winning costumer for over 25 years.

Unable to find the perfect fabric for costumes, she turned to silk painting. She won first prize for her work "Solace" in the 2D division of the 2021 Silk Painter's International competition and won honorable mention in the People's Choice Award in 2022 for "Goodbye Dad," which is currently in the Surface Design Association’s online exhibition Life-Lines.
