About

Many people have rhubarb growing in their yards but make little use of it. In this class, you'll make a rhubarb compote for breakfasts, a delicate coffee cake, and quick pickles for snacking on later. You'll learn more about this plant and discuss techniques for harvesting, prepping, and preserving. And you'll take home a recipe packet.

On the menu:

  • Rhubarb Compote
  • Rhubarb Coffee Cake
  • Rhubarb Pickles

Materials

A $20 material fee, included in the class cost, will cover everything you'll need.

Class Policies

  • Ages 16 and up are welcome.
  • You must wear closed-toe shoes to class.
  • You must be registered for the class (no drop-ins).

Anne Willhoit

Anne is a teacher, food writer, photographer, and parent. She writes the biweekly From Scratch column for the Kitsap Sun and has published work in several magazines. She tries really hard to only make one big kitchen mess per day but rarely achieves this goal. She likes to collect and play with recipes and is always grateful for the seasonal bounty that our island provides. Anne is excited to return to teaching at BARN and has been involved with it since the beautiful kitchen and concept was just a mere gleam in the founding committee's eye. Follow her food journey and maybe learn a few things on Instagram @aawillhoit.
