About
Learn some of what an architect considers when designing a home, and make a scale model that incorporates details you might want in your own starter home.
You'll focus on making models of tiny houses that have flair and demonstrate how small, affordable spaces can shine with great design. The
instructor, a retired architect with numerous awards for modern house designs, considers the development of options for tiny houses important because they're a new building type that you may wind up choosing for yourself.
Using an architect's scale and a T-square, you'll draw the pieces to a scale of 1/2" to 1' on 3/16"-thick plywood. Then you'll cut the parts using a bandsaw, scroll saw, and hand saws. You'll also make to-scale windows and doors. After sanding the parts, you'll assemble your model with wood glue, using tape as temporary clamps. The roof will lift off, giving access to the interior. You'll also make and install interior components.
