About

Learn about unique hardwoods from the Hawaiian Islands and the Pacific Northwest at the free monthly woodworkers' presentation, which this month will feature Rob Harley Forbes, who owns and operates Laeradr Millworks in Poulsbo.

Rob imports and sells slabs of tropical hardwoods, including mango, koa, sugi pine, African mahogany, and many more species — all of which is reclaimed, salvaged or sustainably harvested. He will discuss where and how he finds all this wonderful specialty lumber. Some planks have interesting stories!

He will also discuss the Janka scale — a way to compare the dent-resistance of different kinds of wood — and what type of projects work best using these exotic woods. He will bring slides of various projects he has built.

After the presentation, there will be a field trip to Laeradr Millworks (20460 Noll Road Northeast, Poulsbo) for anyone who is interested. Forbes also has a working farm of dairy goats, Babydoll Southdown sheep, and alpacas at the same location.

The monthly presentations are free and open to all, with no need register in advance. Enjoy coffee and nibbles, learn about different aspects of woodworking, and get to know BARN woodworkers.
