About
This free orientation covers policies and etiquette in a community workshop, along with safety and the studio’s leadership structure.
The open studio experience is discussed as well as what the studio contributes to support members’ learning and project work.
Learning opportunities to help the studio run smoothly are provided. Volunteer jobs range from serving as safety monitors, assisting on community service projects, and helping on Monday Maintenance.
If you are new to woodworking, a basic series of classes is explained to help you begin your woodworking experience while using natural and sustainable materials to create with your hands.

- This class is free, but registration is required.
This class is a component of BARN's Woodworking Basics Certificate program, which includes 14 classes and a mentored final project. Learn more »
You do not need to be a certificate student to take this class.
Project
You will learn how our studio works and fulfill the orientation prerequisite for further use of the studio and classes.
Materials
Any materials used will be provided.

- Wear close-toed shoes.
- Ages 14 and up are welcome.

Instructors or Guides
Julie Williams
California including 10 years as director of marketing and events for the Orange County Professional Firefighters Association. Jeff worked with the
Boy Scouts, Vista Unified School District, and as events director for the 400-member North Coast Aquatics Swim Team in Carlsbad CA. After a move to the Northwest in 2008, Jeff joined the Bainbridge Island Community Woodworkers. This led to becoming the Woodworking Studio's first studio
lead and manager of BARN’s multi-studio cabinet build project during initial construction. He continues to work on the Woodworking Studio's steering
committee, BARN's facilities committee, and as facilitator for numerous internal BARN projects. In 2018, Jeff joined BARN's Board of Directors and now serves on BARN’s Tree Farm committee, planning the proposed BARN expansion.
