About

What better way to learn about cultures beyond our own than to experience them through food? This is designed to be a globetrotting adventure, with each day finding us exploring unique ingredients and preparing some of the popular dishes from that country.

You’ll learn the art of homemade tamales from Mexico. Then you're off to Japan to perfect your sushi-making skills. Italy is next for a lesson in how to make mouthwatering pizza from scratch.  You're off to Asia to master the mysteries of a few classic Chinese dishes. Thailand is your last stop for Pad Thai and more.

Beyond cooking and baking skills, this camp is intended to create a fun and memorable experience where teamwork, good communication and problem-solving are used.

On the menu:

  • Green chile chicken tamale, black bean and corn tamale, chipotle crema
  • Sushi rice, kappa maki (cucumber roll), temaki (Hand roll), California roll, miso soup.
  • Three-cheese pizza, pepperoni pizza, pizza margherita, pizza of your own creation, Caesar salad.
  • Shrimp-fried rice, sweet and sour chicken, almond cookies.
  • Pad Thai, chicken satay with peanut sauce, pandan coconut jelly.

Instructors or Guides

Theary Tran

Theary spent her childhood years in her native Cambodia, where cooking was integral to the culture. Cooking with local ingredients and trusting her senses, Theary learned to achieve flavor in dishes that looked as good as they tasted. These skills enabled her to feel at home regardless of the cuisine she's exploring. For the past 20 years, Theary has been bringing her love of art and cooking to children and adults, teaching fundamentals as building blocks for creativity. The result is a safe and encouraging environment for students to explore their imaginations. Her goal is for each student to have a positive experience that inspires self-confidence, and the opportunity to connect with their own creativity. Theary is currently a K-6 educator locally and in Sonoma County. In her spare time, she spends time in the water, kayaking, hiking, or biking.
