About

Learn a new twist on spindle turning as you turn a project that goes beyond “round” — moving the wood to turn on two different axes instead of the usual one axis. You'll develop an understanding of how multiple-axis woodturning can create a limitless variety of shapes, depending on how the axes align with each other and how many there are. You'll learn to “turn air,” which is the essential basis of multi-axis turning.

Materials

A $10 materials fee, included in the cost of the class, covers everything you'll need.

Prerequisites

  • You must have completed Introduction to Woodturning with some development of proficiency (the ability to turn beads and coves comfortably).
  • Questions should be addressed to Jamie Straw at (360) 551-9233.

Class Policies

Ages 14 and up are welcome.

Mohammed Shafi

Mohammed is a hobbyist wood turner who has been turning for about 10 years. He likes making things he can use, like bowls, but also plates, spoons, candlesticks, tea canisters, boxes, vases, etc. And sometimes he makes things just for fun, particularly multi-axis work or fancy spheres. Mohammed says he's grateful to have been able to learn from the great turners/teacher/people at his turning club in Austin, Tex., and he's eager to share some of that with the folks at BARN.
