About

Sail out into the great unknown with Sue Spargo! For years, Sue has filled her journal with folktales and drawings inspired by the ocean from her travels to take you on the voyage of a lifetime. Trade Winds is not only a vehicle for creativity and craft but an opportunity to dive deeper. Come and uncover the wonders of the ocean’s flora and fauna, and how our ever-changing world is impacting the health of our beloved waters.

Join Sue for a visual study of the seven seas. Explore the ocean through layered hand-dyed wools, cotton fabrics, and more. Draw your inspiration directly from the sea or use Sue’s quilt Trade Winds with its small square blocks that may be pieced, layered, and/or embroidered with a variety of threads that differ in type and weight.

Sue Spargo

This much-beloved instructor and artist was born in Zambia and educated in South Africa. African folklore is reflected in the whimsy and charm of her creations. She moved to the United States in 1980 and settled in Ohio where she started her company, Sue Spargo Folk Art Quilts, Inc. She embarked on her journey of dimensional layering and embroidery and introduced the world to wools saturated in bright colors, multi-medium layering, and embroidery, which resulted in textural depth and dimension never before seen. The circle of fans who love her and her artistry has grown exponentially over the years.
