About

It can be intimidating to fit irregularly shaped cabochons — be they pear-shaped, rectangular or otherwise angular — for a bezel. But it doesn't have to be.

Learn how to form an angular bezel setting for a pendant and how to set a stone. You'll be given stones and metal to practice with, giving you a chance to learn what metal should be removed from the bezel. Once your pendant is built and cleaned up, we'll modify the setting so it fits your stone before you set it.

This is a skills-building fabrication class, so the focus is on learning and understanding how to make more advanced settings so you can include them in your own work. You will have the opportunity to make a pendant to take home.

Details

  • The demo video used in class will be available to you for three months after class.
  • You can bring food/snacks. BARN has a refrigerator and microwave on the lower level.

Materials

  • A $50 materials fee, included in the cost of the class, covers what you'll need. Extra materials may be available for purchase (bring check or cash as the studio can't make change).
  • Please bring a mask and an apron.
  • Please bring a towel for cleanup.
  • You may bring additional stones you want to consider using, as well as accent stones and cabochon stones you want to discuss how to set. You may also bring extra bezel or other metals, loupes or magnifiers, digital calipers, vices, flex shaft hammer hand-pieces, or other setting tools you may have and want to use. This is not required.
